Last December, Vanessa Bryant filed divorce papers on the West Coast, seeking to legally end her marriage to basketball superstar Kobe Bryant. The woman says that she had caught Kobe cheating on her, and essentially decided that the alleged incident was the final straw. Family law rules in her home state differ from Texas family law. However, the divorce proceeding did involve complex issues in marital property division. Ms. Bryant also apparently was seeking child support in the divorce.
Under California law, the couple was required to wait six months before signing any final divorce papers. The six-month mark is looming, but sources now say Ms. Bryant has decided not to sign the divorce papers, in hopes of continuing to work on the marriage.
During the course of the divorce, the couple has not been living together. The couple apparently agreed to a division of property. Three pieces of real estate have already been transferred to Vanessa Bryant's name, including a mansion still under construction that is reportedly worth $11.2 million. Sources say that Vanessa Bryant would receive the three properties that have been transferred to her name, plus around $75 million and money for child support if the divorce is ultimately finalized.
For now, the divorce may be on hold as the couple works to reconcile.
